A 20-year-old Marietta woman was arrested in Marietta for Driving Under the Influence, and the case demonstrates how underage drivers may face serious, potentially life-altering charges against them under Georgia DUI laws. The case, although several years old, was surprising to many Marietta residents and families, due to the young age of the driver, and the seriousness and dangerousness of the incident. According to local news reports, 20-year-old Hannah White, was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer and was traveling northbound on Cobb Parkway in Marietta at around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. At the same time, Sophia Hayes, a 44-year-old woman from Mableton, was driving a 2023 Tesla 3 westbound on Roswell Road. According to investigators, Hayes stopped at a traffic light at Cobb Parkway, while White was allegedly speeding and attempted to navigate a right turn onto Roswell Road. White is alleged to have “failed to maintain her lane” and hit the Tesla with Hayes in it on the back left passenger door. Hayes’ passenger sitting on the left side in the back of the Tesla, 22-year-old Alexandra Skinner, was hit and she suffered what are described as “life-threatening injuries.” Hayes’ other passenger, 23-year-old Noah McEarchern, of Buford, was also injured in the accident, as he was sitting in the back of the Tesla on the right side. As for White, police reported that she was not injured in the accident, and was arrested at the scene. White was charged with a number of charges, including DUI, serious injury by vehicle, and “other traffic-related charges.”
